Advice

Visitors to Limerick for the Royal de Luxe weekend are advised that significant areas of Limerick City Centre will be subjected to Street and Road closures and will effectively be pedestrianised for the weekend to accommodate this unique family friendly event.

Commuters and visitors are therefore strongly advised to avail of Park and Ride and Park and Walk facilities. This will help ease of movement and traffic mobility. Please check the Park and Ride and Park and Walk options on www.royaldeluxelimerick.ie before embarking on your journey.

Please plan your journey and allow an extra hour to travel to any of the extra Park & Ride and Park & Walk Sites.  All cars are parked at the owners risk. In preparation for the huge numbers expected to visit Limerick for Royal de Luxe, two additional ‘easy parking’ options will be available for visitors to the City as follows:

Park and Ride locations

From each morning at 8am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Park and Ride services will be accessible both in and out of the city, at 15 minute intervals, at a cost of €5 per vehicle (which includes shuttle bus fares) from the following locations:

Please note that School Buses can use Park & Ride for Free from the Culture Factory & Limerick Greyhound Stadium.

Bus Departure Frequency

Buses will depart every 15 minutes from each pick up point or as a bus fills to capacity.
Wrist Bands
Wrist bands will be issued to lead passenger and will have details
of the opening/closing time of services for each day, specific to your car park.

 

Car Park

Summer Street Car Park  at the top of William Street access from Summer Street or Wind Mill Lane will be one of the few car parks open due to road closures for 5th,6th,7th Sept

Bus Eireann and Iarnrod Eireann are offering “Gigantic” Journey Specials to Limerick for the Royal de Luxe event during the 5th, 6th and 7th September and details for special train and bus services to Limerick for the weekend can be viewed at www.buseireann.ie or www.irishrail.ie

Accessibility information

The Giant’s Journey, due to the Giant’s height, will be viewable from long distances so this should mean that everyone will get a good view. However to help maximise your enjoyment we would offer the following advice:

All wheelchair users and people with special needs will be permitted to gain access to protected viewing at all marked static performance sites on each day. Further, if you wish to view the Giant’s procession from a protected viewing sites, please find below suitable suggestion:

Friday 5th September
• during part of the walk of the Giant in the morning and afternoon at the Crescent / O’Connell Monument, O’Connell Street
– during the key performance moments (Colbert Station, Sarsfield Barracks) wheelchair users will be allowed into the inner cordon of the performance area to ensure protected viewing

Saturday 6th September
• during part of the walk of the Giant in the morning at the Crescent / O’Connell Monument, O’Connell Street
• during part of the walk of the Giant in the afternoon Hunt Museum front courtyard
– during the key performance moments (Sarsfield Barracks, Shelbourne Park) wheelchair users will be allowed into the inner cordon of the performance area to ensure protected viewing

Sunday 7th September
• during part of the walk of the Giant in the afternoon Hunt Museum front courtyard

Due to the possible road closures and increased general footfall in the city centre, you will need to
plan more time for your journeys. The route of the procession of the Giant contained within this website will help you to plan your visit.
